Your Message>>>>Wondered if there are any Dobson descendants who use this site. Nearly all my Dobson ancestors were connected with the sea, either as pilots or lifeboatmen, three of them having lost their lives whilst saving others. Also, can anyone tell me if it is still possible to buy a copy of the book "Seaham Harbour - the first 100 years 1828-1928" by Tom McNee? This book mentions some of the heroic rescues the Dobsons were involved in.
Many thanks,

I spotted the photo of J Thirlwell in the photos list, taken from the team photo of New Seaham Thistle. He bears a striking likeness to a photo I have of my grandfather's brother James Thirlwell taken around 1916. Does anyone have any biographical details of the Thistle football player? My gr uncle James was married to Harriet Davies in 1911, and had two sons, I believe, James and possibly Eric.

James was the son of John Thirlwell and Annie Curry. At the 1901 census the family were living in 15, Henry Street, Seaham Harbour.

A photo of James about 1916 in WW1 army uniform is attached.
