Lisha, the website www.durhamrecordsonline.com has lots of transcriptions of registers etc from Durham, including Seaham (Easington district). There is a burial record for Michael McMahon from 1893, birth year about 1837, if of interest.

Hello Victor, Ian & Annette.
Interesting to read your posts. Have you thought about using the "Family History" section of the forum to see if you can get any further information. Post as much information as you have and others may join in with additional info.
Good luck and enjoy the site.

Hi Dave.
Kathleen is a brilliant cook so I have had years of practice at washing dishes. I'm not a great cook myself but would be prepared to join your family business as a mince and dumpling taster. (I would also be happy to taste the rest of your delicious products at no extra cost to you.) Kathleen has said she will apply if you chuck in a few return tickets for the channel tunnel.
She said she will immediately introduce a few new products, Escargo patties would be brought in first quickly followed by Grenouille nibbles. (It's common knowledge that not enough local people eat snails and frogs). These new innovations could also lead to increasing your staff by employing "pond plodgers" who would seek out the best local source for raw ingredients.
Sorry Dave, it was just too tempting an opportunity for me to be a bit silly.
Angus products are the things I miss the most and we do treat ourselves EVERY time we come to Seaham.
Regards
John

Kind regards

PS Do you have any photographs of (number 26) East Lea? My parents lived there after war. I believe that they are no longer there.

Hello Norman.
You must have a lot of memories from your younger years in Seaham. How about posting something on the forum section. It's a very friendly community and we like as many people as possible to join in. It's very user friendly too. It would also be terrific if you have any photos of Seaham or Seaham people, they need not be very old. Our son thinks the 60s & 70s were the "olden days"
Can we also encourage EVERYONE to join in, that's the whole purpose of this excellent site. Get out there and rummage through your drawers for those photos and memories of the town and district. YOU can play an important part in the development of this site.
To the younger visitors to this site how about talking to your parents and granparents about Seaham and district. Ask about their life and times and get them to tell you who is pictured on those old photos. Them post it all on this site.
Best wishes to all.
John & Kathleen

Thanks for the reply Lucy. You are indeed younger than us for within 3 years of your birth I was in the Army and on my return I then left Seaham altogether.
Still it's nice to have some degree of contact with Seaham via this excellent site and today I've just discovered someone else I actually knew. Hope it's the first of many.
Thanks again. Norman.

Hello Lucy, Thanks for the 2 messages.
Regretably I do believe that was the Billy Black in the photograph and some little time ago I did hear that he may have died and this seems to confirm it.
So you are cousin to Serana Johnson; I did hear that she now lives in Ryhope.
I've moved from Seaham in 1958 and therefore my knowledge of Seaham and the people is somewhat sketchy.
I assume you may be of a similar age; did you attend Church St School?
I am in touch with Noreen Percy (as she was then) who lived in West St near the Viceroy St Infants School although she too moved from Seaham in the early 50's.
Regards. Norman.

Norman,
Serana Johnson is or was my cousin but I haven't seen her for a long time .Her mother ( Margaret died) so I don't think she comes to Seaham. She was working as manager of an old peoples complex in Norton Road Stockton some years ago but I think due to ill health she gave it up and then moved to another part of Stockton

Hello Dave
The following is an extract from one of youe Seaton pages.

"I see there is no mention of Will Bulmer and his four sons. His father and grandfather before him farmed on Stotfield Farm and was the joiner and undertaker at Seaton. "

This paragraph is incorrect - Will Bulmer had 3 sons and 1 daughter & farmed at STOTFOLD farm. He was not the village joiner, that was H C Bulmer who was Will Bulmers cousin.
He was a joiner & wheelwright and not the village undertaker.

I am Will Bulmers oldest son.

I am pleased that I have found this site, Through a relative of Tommy Cooper who showed me his and Susanna grave in Seaham. It made me feel proud that it has been kept in good condition. Some of my relatives, live in and surrounding area.
I am pleased that you have started this project. As keeping the past and leeting those that understand the Loca history of the home area. My interest is the tram and the trains of these local area. As I obtained a copy of the Local Tram and Railway map of 1897. As it was a Tram picture of 1908 of my Grandfather as the Driver.

So keep up the good work.

A forum for this would be useful, Dave. If you want to avoid a plethora of fora then a single one for all military/armed forces would work I think, including Royal Navy and RAF. Otherwise you would need to decide how to split it.

Hello John and Kathleen. Thank you for such a speedy response. Joseph Tizard Snr was my geat grandfather and Joseph Jnr one of his ten children. Any informatIon would be really appreciated. All I know is that JT Snr served in Egypt. Regarding my grandmother Mary Tizard, I have a copy of her birth certificate (she was born Dec 1900) but this copy was issued 1 May 1915 and is endorsed "For War Purposes only" so presumably someone needed proof of age for her to travel to Gretna Green to work in the factory. I will try to get more information. Thank you so much that you are doing all this. Kind regards Graeme
